2021 = Comeback Year

Race Directors had it hard in 2020. They missed out on the opportunity to connect with their races. Racers missed their opportunity to reach their racing goals.

So now what? Those RD’s that have been able to survive 2020, are looking forward to helping racers achieve those goals that they could not accomplish. It’s tough to know what ‘right’ way is to move forward - but that is exactly what we have to do.

The camaraderie at multisport (& endurance) races are what we all miss. Connecting with total strangers in transition, at the swim start, on the bike, and while on the run.

My last triathlon race was Ironman Puerto Rico 70.3 in March 2019. We traveled with friends and it was one of the best race experiences for a triathlon. In 2020, I ‘raced’ duathlon while a handful of friends & members of the Cleveland Triathlon Club ‘raced’ a triathlon. It wasn’t the same feel as a race - but it sure was great to have that connection during a pandemic.

What does 2021 look like? Most of us aren’t sure - but what we are all looking for is a comeback - a comeback to racing, connecting with friends & strangers, that ‘finish line feeling’ - a time to put the training to the test.
